AALO, Dec 24: West Siang Deputy Commissioner Swetika Sachan has issued an order banning all kinds of fishing in open rivers and streams during the breeding season to control the dwindling aquatic population in the rivers and streams.
The order has been issued in order to stop large-scale fishing activities in the district.
During a meeting here between the administration, public leaders, NGO members, GBs, and former panchayati raj members of Aalo, Kamba and Darak, it was reported that professional fishermen from outside the state are causing irreparable aquatic ecological imbalance.
It was decided during the meeting to put a blanket ban on all kinds of fishing using gill netting, fishing nets, explosives, chemicals, arrows, electrocution, etc, for three years, from 1 April, 2020, to 31 March, 2023.
Violators of the order will attract action under the Arunachal Pradesh Fisheries Act, 2006, and other penal provisions. (DIPRO)
