Hundreds of farmers take part in agri expo

PASIGHAT, Feb 22: More than 300 progressive farmers, along with agriculture scientists, members of SHGs and NGOs, entrepreneurs, and farm mechanization suppliers took part in a district-level ‘agri expo-cum-sale exhibition’ at the stadium here in East Siang district on Thursday.
The expo, which coincided with the 34th Statehood Day celebration, was organized by the agriculture department under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana to motivate the rural farmers to work towards doubling their income within 2022 through agriculture and allied activities.
Local produces like fruits and vegetables, along with agriculture assets, handloom products and improved varieties of silkworms, animals and birds were exhibited for sale during the expo.
During a ‘farmer-scientist interaction meet’ which was held as part of the programme, scientists from the College of Horticulture & Forestry offered solutions to various problems faced by the farmers while cultivating crops, fruits and vegetables.
Earlier, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering, who inaugurated the expo, urged the farmers to “adopt agriculture for self-sustenance and create a green revolution in the region.” He advised the farmers to approach agriculture scientists to gain proper knowledge of scientific farming.
Agriculture Deputy Director of Ajit Pao also spoke.
East Siang DC Kinny Singh, DMO Dr Kaling Dai and local leaders also visited exhibition stalls and interacted with the farmers and entrepreneurs.
