NAMSAI, Feb 27: The Women Welfare Society, Namsai organized a legal awareness programme, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), at the town club here on Wednesday.
The programme featured speeches by resource persons on compulsory registration of marriage, free legal aid, maternity benefits, skill development, women-centric government schemes, domestic violence, drugs, functioning of SHGs and NGOs, etc.
APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi spoke on the types of abuse and harassment of women in the society, and also cited examples outlining “the existence of dowry system in Arunachal society.”
Namsai DC Bijoy Talukdar said that “real empowerment of women can be achieved only when they themselves realize the importance of self-respect,” and added that “the sacrifice made by women is unmatchable.”
Among others, APSCW member Likha Joya, advocate Sanjeev Boruah, DPO KR Sharma, and CDPO W Khimhun were present at the programme.
