TAWANG, Mar 13: An awareness meeting on Covid-19 was held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall here on Thursday.
Addressing the participants, gynaecologist Dr Tenzin Kunga from Khandro Drowa Tsangmu District Hospital presented a brief on Covid-19, and answered queries from the participants.
His Eminence Thegtse Rinpoche and Tawang monastery abbot Gyabong Rinpoche opined that “the people should have faith in the triple gem and pray for the safety and security of all sentient beings from not only Covid-19 but any kind of epidemic and suffering.”
However, both of them stressed on maintaining cleanliness and personal hygiene.
Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok informed that the state government has already issued an order preventing foreign tourists from entering Arunachal, and said domestic tourists and others entering the state via Bhalukpong and Balemu are being screened, “and if required, they will be further screened at Jang check point.”
He said official correspondence will be made with the administration of neighbouring Bhutan on the movement of people from both sides in view of the forthcoming religious functions on both sides of the Indo-Bhutan border.
Local MLA Tsering Tashi said while the government is taking all steps to protect the citizens from being infected with the coronavirus, “at the same time we have to take refuge in religion and faith for the solutions which are beyond science and human capacity.”
He requested the people to not spread rumours and misinformation on social media.
DMO (in-charge), Dr Urgen Lhamu, also spoke.
The secretaries of Jamyang Choekorling Gonpa and the Bramdungchung and Gyangong Ani Gonpas, besides HoDs, taxi and tour operators, hoteliers and ex-panchayat members also attended the meeting. (DIPRO)
