NIRJULI, Apr 16: The police have arrested one Ram Kumar Gaur from P Sector here for allegedly murdering his nine-year-old nephew.
The murder occurred on Thursday, at around 2:15 am.
The accused, a labourer, was living at the residence of his employer. He was reported to the police by his employer, and was immediately arrested by a team comprising Nirjuli PS OC, Inspector Minli Geyi, Inspector O Lego, and others.
“On examination, the accused has confessed to killing his nephew by hitting him with the lid of a pressure cooker and by biting on the boy’s neck with his teeth,” Capital SP Tumme Amo informed.
“No motive was found, except that the accused was frustrated as he wanted to go home but could not move due to the lockdown,” the SP said.
Reportedly, the accused had had a heated argument with the father of the boy the previous day.
The child was staying with his uncle, as his father is in Assam and his mother was in Silsango village, in Sagalee circle, on account of the lockdown.
The postmortem of the body was conducted at TRIHMS on Thursday, and the body was handed over to the boy’s mother – who arrived here after hearing about the incident – for the last rites.
The accused is currently in the police lockup here. He will be produced before the court.
The SP visited the police station at around noon, and a case has been registered under Section 302 IPC after the receipt of a written FIR from the employer of the accused.
