TEZU, Apr 20: The fisheries department in Lohit district sold more than .40 tons (362.85 kgs) of locally raised fishes at the APMC market here within four days.
The fishes were sold with the help of the progressive fish farmers of the district, informed District Fisheries Development Officer (DFDO) Lomge Kamchi.
The department procured and supplied the fishes in collaboration with the progressive fish farmers under the Fish Farmer Producer Organisation Lohit District (FFPOLD), and with support from the district administration. The FFPOLD is a registered society under the district innovative fund.
Fresh fishes were also supplied to the doctors and the Covid-19 quarantine team of the zonal general hospital here as a token of appreciation for their dedicated services to cure the lone Covid-19 positive patient of the state, Kamchi said.
The DFDO informed that there are sufficient fish stocks with the farmers, and that the department is contemplating continuing to supply more fishes during the second phase of the lockdown.
“However, lack of good storage and transportation facilities is causing problem,” the officer said.
