OYAN, May 3: One Jugita Kutum Pao (25) was found dead with multiple burn injuries in the backyard of her house here in East Siang district early Sunday morning.
Her husband’s family informed the police that she was “living normally with the family members last night,” and they discovered her body with burn injuries outside the house the next morning.
However, the deceased’s brother, Jayanta Kutum, of Jonai (Assam), has lodged an FIR with the Sille-Oyan police, terming the incident “a planned murder,” and demanded that the authority conduct proper investigation to unearth the facts behind her mysterious death.
The Sille-Oyan police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the case. The body has been sent to Bakin Pertin General Hospital in Pasighat for postmortem.
Terming the case a “critical one,” the investigating officer (IO) said the police could not rule out “the possibility of foul play in the incident.”
“We are following up on the investigation to unearth the mystery behind the death. The postmortem has been performed and we are sending some materials for forensic examination, which may help generate additional clues for the investigation,” the IO said, adding that “the actual cause of death can be ascertained only after receiving the postmortem report.”
Jugita had married one Sony Pao, a resident of Oyan, last year.
Taking serious note of the incident, the All Mising Students’ Union (TMPK), Assam, has demanded a high-level probe in the case.
