TAWANG, May 29: Local MLA Tsering Tashi inaugurated a sales counter of the agriculture produce marketing committee (APMC) under agriculture department here on Friday to encourage the local farmers to grow more vegetables as well as to provide them with regular market.
The APMC here has been very active in procuring locally available vegetables from the farmers’ field and selling the same at government approved rates during the lockdown period.
It has so far procured and sold 145.75 quintals of vegetables and potatoes and received Rs. 2,56139 on an investment of Rs. 2,22200.
Tashi appreciated APMC and the agriculture department for its contribution during the lockdown for providing fresh local organic vegetables to the people of Tawang and suggested to continue this activity in a sustainable manner.
Deputy commissioner Sang Phuntsok, who is also the chairman of APMC, Tawang opined for diversified activities, like selling of seedlings of ornamental and fruit plants, vegetable seeds etc. through this newly opened sales counter for the greater interest of the farming community.
