In welcome news, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched 2G mobile service in remote Vijoynagar in Changlang district on 1 August. Vijoynagar, which shares international boundary with Myanmar, does not have proper road connection till date. Till today it takes around five days to reach by foot from the nearest town Miao. The road construction work is currently going on, but it might take years before it is actually completed.
The start of 2G mobile service will come as a major boon for the people of the area. This will provide them an opportunity to get in touch with the outside world. Even though this has come late, the initiative has to be appreciated. The BSNL authorities deserve appreciation for the effort put in by them to start the service. There are many other places like Vijoynagar across the state which do not have proper road connectivity till date. The state government in collaboration with the BSNL should identify all such places and work out a solution, so that mobile telecommunication reaches all such areas. In today’s time, when India is making rapid progress in the field of technology, it is unfair to deprive some citizens the fruits of technological advancement.
