APSSB should fill trust deficit

The Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) on Sunday conducted examinations for posts of LDC and JSA. The SSB exam had to be re-conducted after the earlier exam was cancelled following the cash-for-job scam. The investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) revealed that various officials of the board were involved in the scam where candidates had paid bribes to secure LDC, JSA and UDC jobs. Many officials, including the then undersecretary of the APSSB, were arrested. The exam was held under strict vigilance. However, only 34 percent of the candidates who had applied for the various posts appeared in the examination.

This clearly shows that the youths of the state still have a trust deficit. The cash-for-job scam has left a huge scar on the APSSB and it will take some time for the board to regain the trust of the people of Arunachal. But credit must be given to the officials of the APSBB for conducting an error-free examination. Till now, everything looks to have worked fine. Now the result should be declared as soon as possible. The board will have to conduct APSSB examinations regularly without any controversies. Only then will the trust be regained. Besides conducting error-free examinations, the state government should continue to properly investigate the cash-for-job scam and punish those responsible for it.
