ITANAGAR, 14 May: A man identified as Tumi Ado has been arrested by the state police for grievously injuring a woman on Thursday morning in East Siang district HQ Pasighat.
The police said that the woman has been admitted to Bakin Pertin General Hospital, and that her condition is reported to be stable.
Ado was reportedly enraged after the woman broke off their relationship, and came all the way from West Siang HQ Aalo to assault the woman with a dao, inflicting severe injuries on the hands and legs of the victim.
East Siang SP Sumit Kr Jha said that the accused was on the run on Thursday after the crime, and was chased by police teams from East Siang, West Siang and Siang districts.
He was arrested by a team from the Aalo police station, led by Inspector Y Riram, after a night-long search in a forest near Jirdin village in West Siang, based on secret information, said West Siang SP Raja Bhantia.
“The accused was discreetly sent to Pasighat to avoid any possibility of untoward incident in Aalo,” he said.
The accused will be sent to judicial custody after detailed interrogation, Jha said.
“We have got enough evidences against him to prove the case and get him convicted for the highest punishment in the court of law,” said the SP.
An FIR under Section 307 IPC r/w Section 27 of the Arms Act has been registered against Ado.
Earlier too, a case had been registered against the accused at the women’s police station here on 29 April.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has condemned the heinous attack on the 24-year-old woman.
The society while commending the East Siang police led by Jha for the prompt arrest of the assaulter urged the police to thoroughly investigate the case and file a strong chargesheet at the earliest.
The APWWS further said that Ado should not be given bail at any cost.
