AR engages in firefight with NSCN (K-YA) insurgents

ITANAGAR, 31 May: Troops of the Assam Rifles (AR) engaged in a firefight with insurgents of the NSCN (K-YA) on Monday morning in the middle of Noglo village in Tirap district, while on the area domination patrol of the security forces.

This comes after two insurgents of the NSCN (K-YA) had recently been beaten up by the locals of Longkhao village in Tirap district.

As per intelligence reports, the group of insurgents had sneaked into India from Myanmar to carry out sabotage activities against the security forces in the south of Arunachal.

According to reports, on Monday, at around 2:30 am, security forces discerned the movement of some heavily armed insurgents in Noglo village.

The security forces challenged the approaching insurgents to identify them from the villagers. However, on being challenged, the insurgents opened fire in the middle of the village and lobbed two hand grenades. The security forces retaliated with heavy volume of fire on the insurgents, who continued firing while escaping from the place of incident, and ran towards the Indo-Myanmar border.

No casualty among the security forces has been reported. Police officials of the Lazu police station also rushed to the place of incident to take stock of the situation.

Later, at around 8 am, the outraged villagers of Noglo, including women and children, reportedly organized a protest rally and unanimously voiced their protest against such nefarious activities of the insurgents against the security forces.

The villagers also waved placards to show their solidarity with the security forces.
