The much-awaited underpass at Bank Tinali in Itanagar will have to wait for some more days for completion. Even though the PWD Highway had assured to complete the project by August, continued rainfall for the last 20 days has badly hampered the work progress. The PWD and contractor have assured to complete it when the weather clears.
The underpass should be open for traffic only when it is fully ready for use. As it is a very critical infrastructure project, every aspect should be minutely studied and should be opened to traffic only when technical experts give the green signal.
Apart from the underpass, the overall road condition of the newly constructed four-lane highway in between Chandranagar and Papu Hill has also deteriorated.
The PWD and contractor should carry out repair work as soon as the monsoon rain subsides.
Further, in recent years, the condition of roads in between Hollongi and Chimpu has also worsened. The PWD has not made any effort to repair this stretch of the road. In several stretches, the road has been washed away and no longer looks like a four-lane highway.
Also, the work on Package B (Papu Hill to Nirjuli) and Package C (Nijurli to Banderdewa) are expected to start soon. Till the work starts the stretch between Naharlagun and Nirjuli needs to be repaired immediately. At present, the highway is in a pathetic condition and people are suffering a lot. Urgent repairing is required to bring respite to the road users.
