Focus on PMGSY implementation

Yet another road project is lingering, thereby dashing the hope of the people. The people of Kangku circle have alleged that the PMGSY road from Durpai to Likabali is progressing at a snail’s pace. This road was sanctioned after the people of Kangku circle of Lower Siang district launched a ‘No road no vote’ strike four years ago. Now, dashing the hope of the people, this project has been slowed down and the people are alleging that the quality, too, has been compromised. The implementation of the PMGSY has become a major bone of contention in the state.

Majority of PMGSY road projects have been failures. Either the projects are abandoned midway or the quality is heavily compromised. Corruption is considered to be the main factor for the failure. Also, the government fails to maintain roads after their completion. Lack of maintenance destroys the road. The government of Arunachal Pradesh has given a lot of attention to construction of highways in the state. This is bearing results and highway construction has picked up pace in the state. However, unfortunately, the state government has not given enough attention to the problems affecting the PMGSY road projects. There is an urgent need to review the progress of the PMGSY in the state. The issues concerning this should be addressed on an urgent basis. People cannot be denied the right to have proper road connectivity. The PMGSY, which aims to improve rural connectivity, is the backbone of the state. If PMGSY road projects are successfully implemented, it will change the face of the state forever.
