Murkongselek-Dekargaon train service resumes

RUKSIN, 15 Dec: The Murkongselek-Dekargaon broad gauge passenger train service, which was on halt for the last two years due to covid-19 situation, resumed its operation on Wednesday.

The express train, which started from Dekargaon station at 4.45 am this morning arrived at Murkongselek station (Assam) near Ruksin town of East Siang district at around 1.45 pm and left the station for Dekargaon at 3.00 pm.

Thus, the up-train having no. 15813 is scheduled to run back to Dekargaon as down-train with no. 15814 every day.

NF railway officials informed that the passenger train is scheduled to stop at almost all stations along the route for the convenience of the local passengers. The railway authority has introduced both online and offline tickets to travel by the train. ‘However, no reservation system has been facilitated in the train so far,’ it said.

The railway authority has also hiked the train’s fare as it is an express (special) passenger train.

Resumption of the passenger train service was a strong demand of the people of the region. The people of the Siang districts and Dhemaji of bordering Assam are cheerful over revival of the suspended Murkongselek-Dekargaon passenger train services, saying that it would be beneficial for them to travel at a cheaper rate.

Besides the train, two other passenger trains viz. Murkongselek-Guwahati Express (Lachit) and Murkongselek-Rangiya are also running along the route regularly.
