DEOMALI, 9 Jan: Thirty members of different SHGs are participating in a 15-day micro enterprise development programme (MEDP) on ‘food processing and bakery products’ which got underway here in Tirap district on 9 January.
Sponsored by the NABARD, the programme is being conducted by the Patkai Hills Welfare Society (PHWS) under the NERCORMP. The participants are being trained in making bakery products like cakes, pastries, muffins, cupcakes, donuts, etc, along with the proper method of packaging and selling them in the market.
PHWS chief functionary Jasmine Shin informed that the programme is being conducted to “enhance the production quantity by maintaining quality, keeping in mind the demand of bakery products in the area. This would empower rural women for better income and self-sustenance.”
She also dwelt on the scope and importance of skill training to enhance the socioeconomic status of the rural masses, especially women entrepreneurs.
