MIAO, 6 Feb: Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar visited the Miao-Vijaynagar (MV) road in Changlang district on Friday to take stock of the status of construction of the 157-km-long strategically significant road.
Accompanied by Miao ADC Sunny K Singh, Changlang SP Mihin Gambo, RWD engineers and contractors, Kumar inspected the road up to 77 miles, and expressed satisfaction with the progress of work.
Contractor Kaushal Sharma and engineers of the RWD have been toiling without any break, even during the monsoon, so that the road’s construction can be completed within the stipulated period.
The contractor was forced to change the alignment between 32 and 53 miles
and between 61 and 64 miles as it would otherwise have been practically difficult to further the construction. The realignment has paved the way for completion of the project within the deadline.
A large workforce, backed by heavy machineries, is consistently putting a fierce fight with mud and slush in the brutal weather conditions. New earth-cutting is being carried out at many chainages as the pavement is extremely slushy and muddy.
The MV road is divided into five packages, and the stretches under Packages 1, 2 and 3 are now motorable. The work on Package 4 is nearing completion, but the pace of work on Package 5 (Gandhigram to Vijaynagar, 16 kms) is disturbing as the bridges and several culverts are very far from completion.
If the pace of construction under Package 5 is not accelerated, the possibility of the much publicized road getting completed within the deadline of March 2022 will remain a dream. Moreover, the weather may start playing spoilsport from mid-February.
