Org calls for banning untraditional fishing

AALO, 11 Feb: Members of the Aalo Town People’s Welfare and Development Society (ATPWDS) of West Siang district, led by its chairman Kento Ete, met Siang DC Atul Tayeng on 10 February and discussed banning untraditional ways of fishing in the rivers of the neighbouring district.

Ete informed the DC that the West Siang administration has banned all kinds of untraditional fishing in the rivers and tributaries, following repeated appeals by the ATPWDS.

“The Siang counterpart shares river boundaries with West Siang in many places, and the ban will be more meaningful if such restriction is imposed there too to save the rich varieties of aquatic lives, as wanton fishing has led to diminishing population of the fishes we saw in the past,” he said.

The DC assured to issue an order banning all kinds of untraditional fishing in Siang district.

Meanwhile, the ATPWDS has urged the legislators of West Siang and the neighbouring district “connected with the general hospital in Aalo” to look into the issue of the defective solar battery of the hospital’s blood bank. (DIPRO)
