Man gets life sentence for raping minor

KHONSA, 25 Feb: The POCSO court here in Tirap district has sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

The court convicted Mikjan Longri, of Kharsang in Changlang district, under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him for committing the offence of aggravated penetrative assault upon a child below 12 years of age.

The victim, who was a Class 2 student of a government primary school, was raped by the man when he was accompanying her to Samkhidong village.

The victim’s father had filed an FIR at the Kharsang police station on 21 July, 2014.

The case was investigated by SI Ajay Kumar and the prosecution was conducted by special public prosecutor Nyajing Hallang.

The court has referred the matter to the District Legal Services Authority, Changlang, for providing adequate compensation for the rehabilitation of the victim under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme.
