Skill development prog on nurseries held

PASIGHAT, 25 Feb: Twenty-five trainees from different backgrounds underwent a 10-day training programme on ‘Nursery for self-employment – short-term skill training for unemployed youth’, which concluded at the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) here in East Siang district on Friday.

During the training programme, which was conducted by the CHF, the trainees were imparted skill-based training in “nursery raising of various horticultural crops, important vegetative propagation methods such as grafting, air layering, budding in fruit crops and softwood cuttings in ornamental plants,” the CHF informed in a release.

The programme also included practical demonstration and hands-on training. The trainees were taken to a commercial nursery to make them acquainted with “different nursery practices, growing media, container gardening, etc. They were also given the task of making different potting, re-potting and raising of ornamental plants, in addition to project preparations on small as well as large nursery establishment,” it said.

Certificates were distributed to the trainees during the concluding function, which was attended by, among others, CHF Dean Prof BN Hazarika and CHF Assistant Professor Dr Nangsol Dolma Bhutia.
