Take steps to reduce jhum, opium cultivation, says SDGs adviser

HAWAI, 25 Feb: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adviser for Anjaw district, Anindo Majumdar called upon the officials concerned to take steps to reduce jhum cultivation and opium cultivation in the district.

Majumdar was addressing government officers during a review meeting on all 17 SDGs at the DC’s conference hall here on Friday.

Emphasizing the need for horticulture and agriculture development activities, Majumdar asked the officers to provide the benefits of the government schemes to the people and take steps to reduce jhum cultivation and opium cultivation in the district.

He urged the DFO to educate the people about climate change and take steps to protect forests and forest resources.

Highlighting the aims and objectives of the SDGs, Majumdar advised the HoDs and executing agencies to “make pre-plans of all the projects to achieve national targets of SDGs.”

He also emphasized on quality education. “School is not only for teaching but make it a place for campaigning all the welfare schemes, such as Swachh Bharat Mission,” the adviser said.

The Anjaw DC highlighted the bottlenecks and difficulties being faced in achieving the SDG targets in the district. He said that “digital connectivity is the main problem of the district.”

Earlier, Majumdar inspected the newly constructed double-storey VKV in Amliang and the Kalikho Pul District Medical Hospital in Swamy Camp. (DIPRO)
