Kora circle committee stages dharna

ITANAGAR, 11 Mar: Members of the Core Committee on Kora Circle in Lower Siang district on Friday staged a peaceful dharna at the IG Park tennis court here for six hours.

The dharna was staged to highlight the committee’s demand for immediate rollback of the state cabinet’s decision of 23 February, 2022 to exclude Kora circle from Lower Siang district, and for immediate implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh (Reorganisation of Districts) Amendment Act, 2013, in toto.

Speaking to reporters, the chairman of the core committee, Nyadar Loya expressed disappointment over the government’s decision to remove Kora circle from the district, stating that “this decision is the ugliest decision so far taken by the Pema Khandu government.”

He questioned how a circle of one constituency can be in another district, and stated that the 2013 district re-amendment bill was never implemented in the state.

“This is a one-man decision by the state government and we cannot leave our brothers like this, as this comes under one constituency and every circle should remain in the same constituency. Why should a circle be divided?” he said.

“We will go for a democratic movement if this is being considered by the government,” Loya added.
