BORDUMSA, 24 Mar: More than 30 members of different SHGs formed under the NERCORMP took part in a Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) on food processing and bakery products, which concluded at Namleng village here in Changlang district on Thursday.
The programme was sponsored by the NABARD’s Itanagar regional office and implemented by the Changlang Community Resource Management Society (CCRMS).
The participants learned about different bakery products, such as cakes, pastry, muffins, cupcakes, donuts, cookies, etc, along with the proper method of packaging and selling them in the market.
NABARD DDM Kamal Roy informed about different developmental programmes of the NABARD, such as MEDPs, LEDPs, SDPs, rural marts and rural haats, for the benefit of SHGs and farmers.
Community science expert Nani Chaniya spoke about the uses of preservatives in food processing, and requested homemakers to “come out of their homes and encourage women empowerment in the region.”
Horticulture scientist K Bemkaireima highlighted various activities of the KVK which have been completed with the help of SHGs.
CCRMS DPD Nonju Tithak asked the trainees to “supply the finished products, which will be kept in the rural mart and rural haats supported by the NABARD in different corners of the district.”
Bordumsa ZPM Khachang Miao also spoke.
Seeds of bottle gourd, cucumber, ladies finger, cowpea beans and sponge gourd were distributed to the SHG members by the Changlang KVK.
