NAMSAI, 26 Mar: A short-distance marathon from the Noa Dihing bridge point to the multipurpose cultural hall here was organised on 24 March to mark the World TB Day and raise public awareness about tuberculosis (TB).
Students of the Arunachal University of Studies (AUS), the Mahabodhi Lord Buddha College (MLBC) and the Venerable Uktara Bethany College (VUBC) participated in the race.
Miktani Longchot of the AUS and Limtu Jangti of the VUBC were the winners in the boys’ and the girls’ section, respectively, of the marathon.
Painting and essay competitions were also organised to mark the day.
Anushka Taipha of the MLBC was the winner of the painting competition, and Tarh Mangmin of the AUS was the winner of the essay competition.
Namsai ZPC Nang Urmila Mancheykhun gave away the prizes.
Students of the MLBC also performed a street play.
Later, during a meeting at the multipurpose cultural hall, Namsai DC RK Sharma spoke on the effects of social stigma and discrimination associated with TB. He exhorted the students and the HoDs to share information about TB with others.
DMO Dr Nang Soreya Namchoom highlighted the importance and significance of observing the World TB Day.
District TB Officer (NTEP) Dr Padi Tala presented “the current status of the disease in Namsai district.”
The ZPC emphasised on creating awareness about TB, and explained how free TB treatment is helping patients.
