Union minister reviews status of aspirational dist prog

NAMSAI, 19 May: Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Som Prakash on Wednesday visited Namsai and reviewed the status of the aspirational district programme in a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Trade & Commerce Minister Tumke Bagra, and others.

Expressing satisfaction with various achievements and progress made in the district, Prakash, however, advised taking actions to “improve certain parameters of the KPIs of aspirational district programme,” adding that “there is always scope for improvement.”

Prakash also dwelt on the scope for developing “industrial institutions” in Namsai and how it can change the country’s economy.

He also held a meeting with members of trade unions.

Mein on his part said that there is a need to establish a commercial link between Myanmar and Arunachal, and that “efforts are on to achieve this from our end.”

He requested the union minister to “endorse the matter for a positive outcome.”

Bagra also emphasised on promoting bilateral trade with Myanmar. He further said that “government incentives can help sustainable development of agro-based industries in the state.”

Namsai DC RK Sharma made a presentation on the aspirational district programme, including achievements made so far and the areas requiring improvement.

The DPO, who is also the nodal officer for the aspirational district programme, apprised the minister of the lack of human resource in the skill development department, and how appointment of district-level functionaries can improve the skill development sector.

Among others, the trade & commerce secretary, directors, and HoDs attended the meeting. (DIPRO)
