YUPIA, 20 May: Papum Pare DC Sachin Rana on Friday asked the members of the District Export Promotion Committee (DEPC) to “identify champion products of the district on the district map, so that common facility centres can be established at suitable locations.”
Chairing a meeting of the DEPC here, the DC also suggested to the members to “collaborate with celebrities to promote local textiles and handicrafts.”
The meeting was held to discuss the finalisation of the district’s export action plan to develop the district into an ‘export hub’.
Earlier, Trade Development Officer Tai Arun presented a brief on the formation of the DEPC, its aims and objectives, and the activities undertaken by it till date.
Five progressive farmers-cum-entrepreneurs – Tana Tada, Likha Chada, Nangram Kaha, Nara Loma and Ngurang Rajesh – have been selected from Papum Pare to attend a five-day ‘export orientation programme’ at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Kolkata (WB), from 23-27 May.
Matters related to lack of finances for setting up common processing units, vehicles for transportation of products, and lack of knowledge about bigger markets were also discussed during the meeting.
Besides the HoDs and the progressive farmers, the meeting was attended by Industry Deputy Director DT Aka, and other members of the DEPC. (DIPRO)
