NAHARLAGUN, 14 Jun: The World Blood Donor Day this year was observed by the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society and the state branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, at the RKM Hospital here on Sunday.
Addressing the event, SBTC Deputy Director Dr Joram Khopey spoke about the development and future strategies of blood transfusion services in the state. On behalf of the SBTC, he thanked all the voluntary blood donors and blood centres’ staffs in the state for their dedication and contribution in saving lives.
TRIHMS Blood Centre Medical Officer Dr Tashi Paleng presented the guidelines with regard to voluntary blood donation, while Galo Welfare Society president Marnya Ete spoke about “the contribution of the GWS in organising and promoting voluntary blood donation pan-Arunachal.”
Adi Ba:ne Kebang (ABK) spokesperson Vijoy Taram spoke about “the ABK’s commitment to play a proactive role in voluntary blood donation service in the future.”
138 Bn CRPF Commandant Harvinder Singh Kales and Health Services Director Dr M Lego also spoke.
Health & Family Welfare Secretary P Parthiban lauded the SBTC for “improving blood centres across the state and increase in the quantum of blood collection in the state.”
He said that “more voluntary blood donations are required to meet the actual need.”
Individuals who did exemplary services in the field of voluntary blood donation in the ICR were felicitated. They are Mepe Ete, Mimon Doke, Chi Kadu, Dr Sandip Bannerjee and Dhruba Jyoti Bhuyan. All the blood centres in the state too felicitated blood donors who set examples by their contributions.
‘Golden donor cards’ were issued to renowned blood donor Aini Taloh, Arunachal Voluntary Blood Donor Organisation chairman Ramesh Jeke and Mepe Ete as part of the programme.
Twenty-four units of blood were donated by volunteers on the day.
Rajiv Gandhi University in Doimukh also observed the day. More than 40 participants got tested and registered for the blood donors’ registry during the event.
RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha encouraged each and every individual to voluntarily take part in blood donation drives, whenever and wherever such a drive is organised.
In East Siang district, over 100 units of blood were donated by the jawans of the military station in Sigar during a blood donation camp organised jointly by the AAUN Foundation, the Bakin Pertin General Hospital and the Mebo CHC to mark the day.
