RGU mourns prof Dutta’s passing

RONO HILLS, 20 Jun: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) convened a condolence meeting here to pay respects to the departed soul of former social sciences professor Srishtidhar Dutta, who passed away on the morning of 20 June at a private hospital in Guwahati, Assam.

Late Dutta was born on 1 February, 1945, in Hatkhula village in Assam. He had joined JN College in Pasighat as a reader in September 1988, in the history department of the then Arunachal University (now RGU), and was appointed as a professor in August 1993 in the varsity’s history department.

He had retired from service on 31 January, 2005.

The RGU recalled him as a “renowned educationist, noteworthy historian, eminent writer and social activist.”

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

“His demise is a great loss to the academic community,” the RGU said in a release.
