Boat capsize incident: Body of missing person retrieved

BORDUMSA, 22 Jun: The body of 54-year-old Kiran Thapa who had gone missing on Tuesday after a boat in which he was crossing Burhi Dehing river capsized here at Wagun Ghat under Changlang district, has been found. His body was retrieved on Wednesday morning around 6am, 10 km away from the place of the incident by locals.

Talking to this daily, Changlang DC Sunny K Singh informed that the body has been handed over to the relatives of late Thapa.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, a boat carrying a car, a motorcycle and a few passengers capsized here at Wagun Ghat. At the time of the incident, the boat was crossing the Burhi Dehing river near the Assam-Arunachal boundary. The owner of the car, Kiran Thapa, was inside while ferrying his car. After the boat capsized, his i10 car along with a motorcycle, fell into the Burhi Dehing river. Some of the passengers managed to swim to safety but Thapa had gone missing.

The NDRF team and the local administration had launched an operation to locate him but it was the locals who found his body. The authorities managed to retrieve his car from the Buri Dehing river.
