DA cautions people against venturing into Siang

PASIGHAT, 24 Jun: The East Siang district administration has issued an advisory cautioning the people to avoid venturing into the Siang river and streams for fishing, swimming, collecting driftwood, etc, during this monsoon.

People living in the low-lying areas on both banks of the river, such as Jarku, Paglek, SS Mission, Jarkong, Banskota, Berung, Sigar, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing and Mer areas, have been advised to remain alert during rainy season.

The people have been advised to contact the control room (0368-2222333), the DC (0368-2222340/ 2222222), the DEOC (10779 (toll-free), the DDMO (9436220356), the Pasighat PS OC (84148-13836), the SP (0368-2222/2224001/4002), the DSP (943629904), or the fire service (8257923145) in case of any eventuality or emergency.

In an earlier order, the administration on 20 June stated that “strict action will be taken under Section 188 IPC and other relevant provisions of the law against violators for lifting driftwood such as logs, trees, bamboos, clamps and any uprooted trees, vegetative materials brought by the river from upstream and parked along both the banks of the Siang river.” (DIPRO)
