ITANAGAR, 28 Jun: In view of the incessant rainfall triggering floods in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), the ICR district administration on Tuesday announced shutting down of all the schools, including primary, pre-primary, upper primary, high and higher secondary schools, in Itanagar from 29 June to 1 July.
Invoking Section 33 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom informed that the situation would be assessed prior to taking a decision regarding extending the closure.
Potom said that the schools’ closure is a precautionary measure for the safety of the students. He informed that, due to incessant rainfall, various locations within Itanagar have been affected by flood and landslides, posing a threat to lives and properties. He added that various roads, including NH 415, in Itanagar
have been damaged, resulting in traffic congestion and inconvenience to the commuters who use the Naharlagun-Itanagar road.
E/Siang DIPRO adds: The East Siang district administration has ordered closure of all schools, both government and private, from 29 to 30 June, in view of the flood situation in the district.
