ITANAGAR, 29 Jun: Arunachal Pradesh Governor’s wife Neelam Misra appealed to the teachers of Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) to instill the spirit of curiosity in students and encourage them to learn about traditional weaving.
Interacting with the teacher in-charges of SUPW of various schools at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, Misra said that by including loin loom in SUPW projects, the traditional loin loom weaving will be revived.
“The loin loom weaving has always helped in the economic empowerment of womenfolk in Arunachal Pradesh,” she said.
A former science teacher herself, Misra said that she is aware of the challenges as a teacher but as a guide, philosopher and friend of the students, they have to find innovative ways, so that the age-old tradition of Arunachal Pradesh is not extinct in the technological rush.
In order to make the learning of the loin loom easy, Misra demonstrated a self-made mini loom model to the SUPW teachers.
Later, she distributed yarn to the teachers. A documentary on loin loom of Arunachal Pradesh was also screened for them. (PRO to Raj Bhavan)
