Police arrest rape accused from Leh after 2 years

ITANAGAR, 29 Jun: Capital police arrested a rape accused from Leh, Ladakh after two years of dogged investigation.

The police launched investigation after receiving an FIR from the victim on 17 September, 2020 that one LR Meena raped her with the false promise of marriage. However, the investigation was delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

“The police launched the investigation from the scratch as they did not have any information about the alleged accused except his name, profession and phone number,” Capital SP Jimmy Chiram said.

“After detailed investigation, IO SI R Singpho finally identified the alleged accused as Lekh Ram Meena of Rajasthan in February this year. Thereafter, a team from Women Police Station (WPS) here led by Inspector P Taku and SI Rosy Singpho traced him and succeeded to arrested the alleged accused on 27 June after a week-long operation,” the SP said.
