Raja calls for better coordination for reliable power supply and revenue generation

Power sector SOC meeting held

ITANAGAR, 29 Jun: The first state-level operational coordination meeting (SOCM) of the power sector was held in the D K auditorium of the state legislative assembly here on Wednesday.

In his inaugural address to the gathering, advisor to minister (power & hydropower) Balo Raja  emphasized the need for better coordination among the power constituents for achieving the ultimate goal of ensuring reliable and quality power  supply to the people of the state besides earning revenue through trading to the outside consumers.

While referring to the unresolved issue of under-drawal of power from the state’s own hydels ‘as experienced in the past,’ Raja informed that  the issue was  finally resolved with injection of 5000 KW of locally generated power from various mini/small hydels of Tawang district into the state grid from 12 to 15 Jun last through local grid (LG) system.

“Similar action was on to inject power from Kamba hydel in West Siang district, whose trial run is also being done,” he informed.

Raja further informed that the SLDC is enforcing the regulations being formulated by the CEA, CERC and the SERC. He cautioned that ‘any indiscipline to the regulations passed on by the SLDC would directly affect the system and may even lead to collapse of the national grid apart from affecting the state exchequer heavily in the form of penalties.’

He further informed that with the close coordination of the commercial wing of the department and the SLDC alone, the state could earn Rs.128 crore during the last financial year through sale of surplus power to outside the state. Raja expressed hope that the state could earn more revenue with the close coordination of all its constituents right from ‘generation, transmission, distribution, commercial and the SLDC in the coming days.’

In his brief address, director of the Devi Energies Pvt. Ltd, D K Thongdok requested for strengthening of existing Khuppi-Balipara transmission line, so that with the commissioning of Dukhumpani 16 MVA substation, power from this hydel can be transmitted to Tawang, West & East Kameng districts.

SE (Transmission) T K Tara gave a power-point presentation on the transmission system of the state and the upcoming comprehensive schemes.

In the technical session, all the engineers of the stakeholders of power sector in the state participated and discussed to resolve any technical, operational and coordination issues.

The inaugural session was attended, among others, by host of engineers of power, hydropower, APEDA and AP Hydropower Development Corporation Ltd and officials from private power developers, M/s Devi Energies Pvt Ltd. and M/s Arunachal Pradesh Power Corporation Pvt.
