CHANGLANG, 30 Jun: A two-member central team, comprising NITI Aayog Joint Secretary KS Rejimon and Mausumi Sahoo of the Central Ground Water Board, is on a four-day tour of Changlang district to take stock of the progress of the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 22’ programme.
On Thursday, the team held a meeting here with Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte, the DC, the ZPC, and other officials of the district.
During the meeting, Pongte highlighted the difficult topography of the district, which, he said, “is the main reason for unsuccessful implementation of various central schemes.”
He emphasised that “the government should prepare separate implementing guidelines for the Northeast states.”
Rejimon urged everyone to “take up reformative action and build check dams, water harvesting structures for mitigating the issue of water scarcity in the district.” He also suggested creating awareness among the people about conserving water.
Deputy Commissioner Sunny K Singh said that he would coordinate with all the departments and come up with an effective and comprehensive plan.
“Priority will be given to Amrit Sarovar to mitigate the issue of water scarcity in the district,” he said.
ZPC Kapseng Kungkho and DRDA PD H Diyum also spoke.
The team also visited the Jal Shakti Kendra and the Rangkatu fishery farm.
The team is scheduled to visit Jairampur, Kharsang, Bordumsa and Diyun over the next three days to inspect the schemes implemented in those areas. (DIPRO)
