Arunachal in leaders’ group in Startup Ranking-2021

NEW DELHI, 4 Jul: Arunachal Pradesh was adjudged one of the leaders in the States’ Startup Ranking-2021, during a function organised here by the promotion of industries & internal trade department on Monday.

The states’ startup ranking is an evaluation tool that judges the startup ecosystem of different states. Every year, the performances of all the states are evaluated, based on their facilities for startups. It is an outcome-oriented evaluation tool that aims to motivate states to offer a better ecosystem to startups and entrepreneurs.

Union Textile Minister Piyush Goyal and MoS for Commerce & Industries Som Prakash handed over the felicitation certificates to the states.

Arunachal’s Planning & Investment Joint Director and the state nodal officer for startup and investment promotion, Tabe Haidar, received the award on behalf of Arunachal.

Haidar, along with Planning Commissioner Prashant Lokhande also received individual ‘certificates of commendation’ for their efforts in streamlining the startup ecosystem in the state.

The state government also recognised the contribution made by Himanshu Gupta, the then secretary of the planning & investment department.

A release from the finance, planning & investment department’s investment division informed that “it was the maiden participation of Arunachal in this exercise, where the state has emerged in the leaders’ group.”

“By doing so, it has moved ahead of major states and union territories like Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and many more. In the Northeast region, only Meghalaya is ahead of Arunachal and Assam is in the same group of leaders, which speaks volumes about the progress made by Arunachal Pradesh in such a short span of time,” the release added.

“The state kicked off its first entrepreneurship development challenge in August 2020. It had brought onboard seasoned consultants like PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt Ltd and incubators like the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta Innovation Park. The state also inaugurated the Arunachal Pradesh Innovation & Investment Park (APIIP) in August 2021 and notified its startup policy in June 2022. The state currently has 31 startups that have been incubated in the APIIP. Till date, Arunachal’s startups have raised 90 lakhs+ funding from the market, seven of the startups have been selected to pitch at Startup India and one startup is being groomed for pitching at Shark Tank Season 2,” added the release.
