NAHARLAGUN, 4 Jul: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tame Phassang has directed the engineers of the IMC and the contractors to judiciously use the funds meant for development projects.
He said this while inspecting the under-construction sewerage treatment plant (STP) here on Monday.
Speaking to the media, the mayor informed that the STP was an old project which had been sanctioned before the incumbent corporators were elected, “and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also questioned the IMC for unavailability of the STP and even imposed a fine. So, IMC has constituted a four-member committee of councillors, comprising Kipa Takum, Lokam Anand, Tamuk Tagiang and Tadar Hanghi, to study the reason behind the delay in completion of the project and submit the action taken report.”
Responding to a query on mismanagement of funds, the mayor said, “The committee will study the whole issue, and if there is any lacuna in fund management, the corporation will take stern action and make sure that the project is not affected and it is completed within the timeframe.”
Under the project, polluted water from Naharlagun will be treated and then released into the river, maintaining the guidelines of the NGT.
Among others, Deputy Mayor Biri Basang, IMC Commissioner Lika Tejji, and the IMC-II EE accompanied the mayor during the inspection.
