NYOBIA, 9 Aug: Home minister Bamang Felix urged the gram panchayat leaders, booth level committee members and workers, and villagers of 19th Nyapin (ST) assembly constituency to put up national flag at their respective houses from 13 to 15 August to mark the 75 years of the India’s independence.
The home minister however, cautioned all against disrespecting the national flag in any manner before and after the Independence Day celebrations and informed that showing disrespect to the national flag is a legally punishable offence.
In this regard, Felix directed the gram panchayat leaders to ensure that national flag being raised by them and villagers at their homes is done in a proper and respectful manner. He also suggested that those who find themselves unable to properly keep the national flag after August 15 should submit the same to their respective gram panchayat leaders.
“It is not just a flag, it is a symbol of our pride for our nation and represents our collective identity as Indian. So, disrespecting the national flag is disrespecting the nation and its people,” he said.
Felix was speaking during the national flag selling/distribution event held at the circle office, Nyobia under ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. The event was attended by Kurung Kumey deputy commissioner Bengia Nighee, HoDs, panchayat leaders and workers, villagers, and school students.
