TAWANG, 30 Aug: “The festival of democracy is approaching and we all have to pull up our socks and tighten belts to conduct the electoral process successfully,” said Tawang DC Kesang Ngurup Damo here on Tuesday.
Chairing a meeting with stakeholders with regard to the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021 at the IIM Shillong satellite centre here, the DC told the political parties that “if any rationalisation of polling stations in the district is to be done, the matter may be brought to my knowledge through respective EROs in black and white.”
He sought “sincere cooperation” from the BLOs in linking of Aadhaar cards with the electoral roll, and advocated generating awareness about it among the voters.
Tawang ADC Lobsang Tsering informed that, “as per latest guidelines from Election Commission of India, there will be four qualifying dates for inclusion, deletion and other corrections in electoral rolls. The discrepancies in electoral rolls will be found out on the basis of demographic-similar entries, which deal with matching of biodata and photo-similar entries, and EPIC will now be issued in PVC cards.”
He asked the heads of offices to guide and supervise their subordinates in linking Aadhaar cards with the electoral rolls, “though it is not mandatory,” through form 6B.
The ADC also urged the BLOs to “use the Garuda app for election-related work and visit each and every household.” He requested the political parties to assist the BLOs in “collection of form 6B from electors.”
Lungla ADC Tashi Dhondup sought “training at AERO/BLO level with regard to quarterly qualifying dates.”
EROs, AEROs, BLOs and representatives of political parties attended the meeting. (DIPRO)
