Students responsible for future of state: Raja

ITANAGAR, 11 Nov: Palin MLA Balo Raja said that students are responsible for their own future and the future of the state as a whole.

Addressing the valedictory function of the 42nd College Week celebration of the Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here on Friday, Raja urged the students to become the role models of their native districts, besides upholding the values instilled in them by their parents.

“Degrees are of no use if the person doesn’t uphold its value in the true sense,” he said.

He also appealed to the faculty members of the college to deliver their duties with utmost sincerity and dedication.

APBRDA Chairman Tungri Effa in his speech highlighted the importance of discipline.

“Sincere and serious students have no dearth of opportunities under the present government,” which, he said, “has zero tolerance policy against corruption.”

He advised the students to strive to achieve the goals in their chosen fields.

DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan apprised the audience of “one of the most important problems concerning the young generation in the recent past – drug addiction,” and stressed on the role of various stakeholders in creating awareness, besides on the need to rehabilitate drug addicts.

DNGCSU general secretary Ha Tatu also spoke, and submitted a one-point memorandum to the MLA.

This year, the four houses were named after the late chief ministers of the state as a tribute and acknowledgement of the various contributions they made for the progress of the state.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of various events by the dignitaries present.

Dorjee Khandu house emerged the overall champion house, while Kalikho Pul house was adjudged the most disciplined house.

Taring Bakar (BCom first semester) and Tago Yaja (BA third semester) bagged the best athlete award in the boys’ and the girls’ section, respectively.

Late Tai Ama of the DNGC Arts Club was posthumously honoured with the best artist award.

The college’s anthropology department was adjudged ‘the best marching contingent’.

Hidung Yamin and Tarh Achi (BA fifth semester) were declared as Miss and Mister DNGC, respectively.
