ITANAGAR, 29 Nov: Guwahati (Assam)-based St Jude India Child Care Centres (St Judes) provides a ‘home away from home’ for children undergoing cancer treatment at the Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati.
With two centres, each housing 12 families, St Judes provides free-of-cost accommodation and holistic support to children and their parents who come from small villages and distant towns of Assam, Manipur and other parts of the Northeast to improve their chances of surviving cancer and leading a full, healthy, happy life.
Founded in 2006 by Shyama and Nihal Kaviratne, and a dedicated group of volunteers, St Judes works alongside the Tata Memorial Hospital, the AIIMS, New Delhi, the Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata, the Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, and various cancer hospitals in nine cities across India.
