ITANAGAR, 28 Dec: Arunachal Pradesh stunned Tamil Nadu 2-1 in their opening match of 76th National Senior Men’s Football Championship for Hero Santosh Trophy at Kokrajhar on Wednesday.
Arunachal made a dream start by taking the lead in the 8th minutes of the first half with goal from debutant Gemar Loya.
Tamil Nadu responded well and equalized in the 18th minutes through S Tamilselvan.
Arunachal started the second half in the same spirit and Tapi Hakhe scored in the 50th minute to give his team 2-1 lead. They held the lead until the final whistle to register their first win in the championship.
Arunachal will next play against host Assam on 30 December.
Tai Bhai is the captain of the team.
Sangey Tsering and Sanam Ramchiary are the head coach and assistant coach respectively, while Minto Peyang is the team manager. Tom Sangdo is the team physiotherapist.
