Villagers taken on tour to power projects in MP, U’khand

ITANAGAR, 2 May: A group of 29 villagers from the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project area of Siang and Upper Siang districts was taken on an ‘awareness trip’ to Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand recently by the state government, in association with the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).

During the eight-day trip, the group was taken to the 520 MW Omkareshwar power station and the 1,000 MW Indira Sagar power station in MP, and to the 1,000 MW Tehri hydropower plant in Uttarakhand, so that they could witness the engineering marvels and learn about the rehabilitation & resettlement (R&R) initiatives.

NHPC officers apprised the group of the R&R initiatives and other developmental plans for the project-affected families. The group also interacted with the local residents and learned about the overall development brought about by the hydroelectric projects.
