ASVS to host 34th National Chess C’ship

PACHIN, 24 Oct: The Arunachal Shiksha Vikas Samiti (ASVS) is all set to host the 34th All India Chess Championship, as part of the 34th National Sports Festival, at the Abotani Vidya Niketan here in Naharlagun from 26 to 30 October.

The championship, for U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories (both boys and girls), is being organised by the samiti under the aegis of the Vidya Bharti Sports Council, affiliated to the School Games Federation of India.

“The winners of the tournament will participate at the international event,” the ASVS informed in a release.

Over 350 school students and over 100 officials and escorts from across the country will participate in the championship. The teams are arriving in batches from 24 to 26 October.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, and IT Chairman Doni Nich will attend the cultural event on 28 October, it said, adding that Governor KT Parnaik and Sports Minister Mama Natung will attend the closing ceremony on 30 October.
