Retd horticulture director Dr Alok Tagi passes away

PASIGHAT, 18 Nov: Retired horticulture director Dr Alok Tagi breathed his last on 17 November at his residence in Diking here in East Siang district, after a prolonged illness.

He is survived by his wife and three sons.

Born in 1951 in Kebang village (in present Siang district), Dr Tagi was son of late Takur Tagi and late Yadeng Tamut. He did his schooling from the Govt Secondary School in Mirem and

the Govt Higher Secondary School in Pasighat. He graduated in agriculture from the Assam Agricultural University (Jorhat) and earned his master’s degree in agriculture from the Allahabad University.

Dr Tagi was the state’s first PhD degree holder in agriculture and also the first agriculture inspector (1973). He also served as a DHO in many districts, before retiring as the horticulture director in December, 2008.

He had represented Arunachal Pradesh in the Subroto Mukerjee Soccer Cup in 1965.

After his retirement, Dr Tagi served as the president of the Pensioners’ Association for three years.

Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering, Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng, East Siang DC Tayi Taggu, and JNC Principal Tasi Taloh expressed profound grief over Tagi’s demise.

“Dr Tagi was a dedicated and efficient officer and his contributions to the development of the state and welfare of the people would always be remembered,” they said in their condolence messages. (DIPRO)
