Cast your vote wisely

Editor,
Since the assembly and the parliamentary elections are approaching, various political parties of the state are gearing up their political activities across the state. Moving from one party to another party, spreading their party’s manifestos and ideologies through social media platforms, holding public meetings and processions are the current scenario. However, it’s not a new thing for us; rather, it is a normal part of democracy.
Apparently, in the course of election campaigns, involvement of heinous crimes, money culture, muscle power, election propaganda, and clan-based politics are taking place, diluting the true spirit of democracy. Demanding money from aspiring candidates by various individuals and groups is also an evil practice that we see in Arunachal Pradesh.
At the same time, people from various sections of the society will definitely be involved in the upcoming election process with enthusiasm. Party workers and influential persons will certainly try to influence the voters through various means, like approaching home to home, coercion, manipulation, etc. Kindheartedness, generosity and hospitality will also come out drastically in order to impress and allure the innocent voters. Nothing too serious about these; it’s the beauty of democracy.
Definitely, the government will come and go, and it’s the crucial part of the parliamentary form of government. However, good governance is not easily found, but needs a genuine approach, collective efforts and good conscience of the voters. At the same time, the voter’s perception, if possible, ought to be based on people-friendly ideology, good programmes and policies, and governance.
It is believed that citizens are the gods of democracy. Ultimately, the moral responsibility lies upon the citizens while exercising their democratic rights and duties. Therefore, they need to cast their votes with full consciousness for the betterment of the society, the state, and the nation as a whole.
Meanwhile, the society is becoming more complex with the passage of time, and therefore requires genuine representatives, visionary leaders, and wise statesmen to deal with such societal complexities and to secure a bright future for our society in the years to come.
