PASIGHAT, 15 Apr: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority opened a legal aid clinic at the women police station here in East Siang district on Sunday.
The newly set up clinic will cater to the legal needs of the people and will be manned by dedicated paralegal volunteers (PLV) who will assist the legal aid seekers who approach the clinic.
The legal aid clinic has been set up in compliance with the Supreme Court order to facilitate easy access to justice for the marginalised sections of the society, women, missing children, and other offences against children, and the National Legal Services Authority’s framework to provide early access to justice at pre-arrest, arrest and remand stages.
District & Sessions Judge Tageng Padoh, who inaugurated the clinic, emphasised the significance and functions of the legal aid clinic and the PLVs in bridging the gap between legal service institutions and the general public as the PLVs serve as grassroots workers, ensuring that individuals seeking legal assistance have access to free legal aid through the nearest legal service institutions.
SP Sachin Singhal, CJM Tenzin Metho, OCs Ige Lollen and Ojum Riba, among others, attended the programme. (DIPRO)
