Energy Independence Day celebrated

PASIGHAT, 12 Jul: The Spear Corps of the Indian Army celebrated the Global Energy Independence Day, themed ‘Transitioning to clean energy’, at the Sigar military station in East Siang district on Friday.

A plethora of activities, ranging from awareness lectures to poster-making competition, visit to a solar farm, and oath-taking were carried out with the aim of educating and promoting awareness generation regarding alternative forms of energy and adopting renewable sources of energy.

Students of Don Bosco School Mebo, who participated in the event, learnt about the latest technologies of solar cells, wind turbines, biogas energy, planting trees, and water harvesting.

The students visited the solar farm of the military station, which provided them an insight into the world of science, technology and engineering in the context of green energy production. Additionally, the students were told about the importance of using e-vehicles and bicycles as sustainable modes of transport, and about the practice of carpooling to reduce carbon footprint.

At the end of the event a collective pledge was taken by the soldiers and the students to “transition towards clean energy.” (DIPRO)
