The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, introduced a much-needed bill in the Legislative Assembly: the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Examination (Measures for Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024.
The bill is indeed one the greatest efforts of the government to curb the rampant malpractices prevalent in the APPSC examinations. Such an initiative deserves appreciation.
Nonetheless, when it comes to the sections dealing with the punishment for malpractices, the amount imposed as fine and the term of imprisonment mentioned therein seem to be a drop in a bucket, given the seriousness of the crime. The cracking of APPSC examination is the ultimate destination of every intellectual youth in the state, and at the same time, it’s the state’s top platform through which the best and deserving candidates are recruited to the respective positions, so that they may serve the society in better ways.
When malpractices happen in such a constitutional body, the youths of the state become hopeless; when the sanctity of the institution loses its glory, the hearts of thousands are broken. Hurting the sentiment of every section of society is not acceptable; destroying the future generations is not tolerable; breaking the emotions of the parents is not appreciated. It’s murder of humanity. It’s a well-planned and conscious act of people with evil intentions, reflecting the mindset collective failure of our own state. Such activities must be prevented by hook or by crook.
Therefore, those who indulge in offences related to impersonation, leakage and malpractices during the recruitment process of such examination must be dealt with higher fines and longer term of imprisonment.
