NAHARLAGUN, 28 Jul: A team of the Naharlagun police arrested a drug peddler from Model Village here on Saturday night.
The peddler has been identified as Benu Dutta (48), from Ghaigaon in Assam. The police team recovered three paper rolls and one plastic pouch, containing cannabis weighing 43.4 grams, from his possession.
During interrogation, Dutta disclosed that there was more cannabis in his shop in Model Village.
The police team immediately rushed to the shop, and seized 58 plastic pouches and 39 paper rolls, containing cannabis, weighing a total of 1,004.2 grams, from the bedroom adjoining the shop. The total seizure of cannabis amounted to 1,060 grams, the police said.
A criminal case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and the accused is under arrest.
The arrest was made based on a tip-off that a local youth in possession of cannabis was roaming in Prem Nagar area. The police team, accompanied by Naharlagun EAC Khoda Bath, rushed to the spot and apprehended the youth. Following revelation by the youth, the team apprehended Dutta from Model Village.
The police team, comprising Naharlagun SDPO Paul Jerang, Naharlagun PS OC Inspector Krishnendu Dev, SI Gyati Lento, Head Constables T Moye and I Ngomdir, and Constables Sanu T Raj, Debojit Borah, T Haging, Manoj Gogoi, Sonam Namgey, and K Samyor, under the supervision of Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo, conducted the search and made the arrest.
